Monitoring of Pollution from Land-based Resources

One of the main elements of the Kuwait Action Plan is the periodical assessment of the state of the marine and coastal environment of the ROPME Sea Area (RSA), of the trends in the quality of the environment, of the sources of its degradation and the impacts of the degradation on human health, ecosystems and amenities.

To fulfill this obligation, the Protocol for the Protection of the Marine Environment against Pollution from Land-Based Sources was adopted by Member States in 1990. The objective of the Protocol is to prevent, abate and combat pollution by discharges from land reaching the sea, whether water-borne, air-borne, or directly from the coast.

The present sub-module is established to facilitate, organize and harmonize the required data and information for the preparation of the regional assessment report on one of the major Land-Based Sources of pollution in the RSA, i.e. the Municipal Wastewater.

The sub-module consists of a questionnaire to be compiled by the operator of each municipal wastewater treatment plant in accordance with the Instructions to fill-out the LBS form.
